Emotional Well Being

Everyone has experienced emotions and yet very few individuals know what they are.  The very root word for the English word "emotion" reveals the nature of emotions.  The term is taken from an Old French term "Esmovoir" (To excite).  The term esmovoir is taken from the  Latin word "Exmovere"(To disturb).  This term is taken from the base root word "Movere" (To move).  From the original foundation of the word the meaning is quite clear that the meaning signifies that one has been disturbed or that the quiet and peace has been interrupted.  This interruption of a set state causes one to move from one manifestation of feeling or mental state to another.  The very term exmovere indicates that one has moved (movere) out (ex).  Emotions move us out of one position of expressing our feelings into another mode of feeling.  As such, emotions are affective states of consciousness in response to a stimulation, experience or an event.

Emotions are the manifestations of such conscious responses to these experiences, events or stimulations (such as: sorrow, joy, fear. love, hate, etc.).  In any given day individuals may experience a wide range of emotions due to a wide range of experience, situations or stresses that are a part of life.  There are things in life that excite us, make us angry, sad or want to show appreciation and love.  Emotional well being is being able o associate the right emotive response with the correct experience.  Emotional well being enables an individual to cope with disappointment and adverse situations and feelings that may rise without succumbing to a state of depression or heaviness that is not extended or long lasting.  It is the state of mental wholeness that enables an individual to keep bouncing back and recovering from mental and emotional pain.  Most emotionally healthy individuals can experience those feelings that are negative and work through them by accepting those things that have occurred and moving forward.  A part of the healing process is acceptance and resolution wherein the individual has made a volitional choice to move on and deal with the pain or even the good feeling without the reprisal of fear or uncertainty.

Emotional well being allows one to respond to those situations and make a determination that things, both good and bad occur as a part of life but life must go on if we are to survive.  When an individual is having a difficult time to reconciling their emotions and they become stuck in a bad place mentally where they find it hard to move forward or to experience the regular spectrum of emotional responses to those situations of life this could be a sign of:

1. Tiredness

2. The beginning of burnout

3. The beginning of a stage of depression

When there is a continual downward spiral into one emotional state that is debilitating this may be the time to seek professional counseling. Healthy emotions allow the individual to volitionally alter their perspective of the situation.  Wholeness gives us the power to change how we see a situation for the purpose of analyzing the severity of any given situation thereby to also find a remedy or solution to the problem.  Mental/emotional health can be monitored by trying to see the bright side of every situation.  Depression and sadness must be monitored and a healthy outlook on life is the key to maintaining a healthy emotive state.  Of course there are times when the stress of life can cause issues that may impact the literal brain and the nerve endings.  It is never  a bad thing to seek help for emotional states that seem to be moving beyond our control.  With the ever shifting societal changes in our environment, our finances and our relationships  new and consistent stress will become more and more eminent if the events in the world continue to change as they are the human mind will be forced to deal with new levels of difficulty and face stressful situations that were never experienced in the history of mankind.

Spirituality and the dependence upon a higher personal savior allows us to look to someone who is much greater than ourselves, not as a crutch but as a support system that comes from a personal friend, Father and God.  God gives us a hope that in spite of all that we experience we are still loved and deemed to be important.
