About D.Reeves

I remember growing up and starting my musical journey in the 4th or 5th grade.  There weren't many instruments that a poor kid could learn and use an instrument for free so I opted to play the violin.  When I played music I felt something that I could not explain.  Even though I was a kid I enjoyed being able to make music.

Of course when you get older things change and so did my life. As I moved on to Junior High School there were not very many young black men growing up in the projects who played the violin.  In spite of also practicing martial arts the violin got me into more fights than I care to mention (Oh how I wish I had a mentor that would talk to me about being an individual) and so I switch my instrument to the Violin-Cello (String Bass).  Although I missed playing the violin I enjoyed just playing music. I would play the bass (mainly orchestral) throughout Junior High School and ultimately wound up playing the Baritone Horn in my Senior High School Marching Band.

After graduation and heading into  the job market and college I found that my hunger for music was still there.  I had stacks and stacks of R&B 45's and 33's (mainly ballads) and I would listen to music consistently.  One day at work I discovered that there was a piano on the 4th floor.  I remember praying and asking the Lord to let me play this outstanding instrument and I would get to work 2 and sometimes 3 hours early to tinker on the piano.  I continued to play and so desired to have a teacher but that was not to happen.  I was called into the ministry and my life was very busy and my desire to play never left.  I would practice on the piano at the church.  I envied those who were classically trained or that had any training.  I continued to tinker away and to my surprise I found that I could hear notes and music in my head.  I never started to compose seriously until 2010.  I just wanted to have some music to study by and the music that was being played on the radio was just too commercial.  I began to record some pieces just as a past time.  Music became my therapy and outlet after dealing with the problems of so many others (working with Severe Behavior Handicapped and spending a great degree of time in counseling others.  I was persuaded by those loved ones close to me and here I am.  I've begun my Journey Home back to my musical roots!!!
