The Distillation Effect
Someone recently asked me, "How do you seem to keep writing music and not get burnt out?" I explained to them that firstly I love to write and I don't just write music. I write academic material, self help books, theology etc. I also love to write novels. Writing is a part of who and what I was designed to be. One of the secrets that I have continued to use is the method I call distillation. Everyone has a source of inspiration that they pull from; however not everyone has a living inspiration dwelling within them. The seed of greatness is given by God to all and that living breath continues to flow drip by drip until it becomes a raging river with tides of creativity.
The distillation effect is knowing how to capture the thought. Every song, novel, invention begins with one thought. The first thought is the beginning of many thoughts or feelings and in the case of music notes and sounds. I allow these thoughts and feelings to fill me and I allow them to flow. One cannot force creative ability but one must receive the inspiration. In the reception of the inspiration it will flow as long as there is no disruption of the flow.
Yes I do have times when the course of the day makes it a little more complex to relax and receive this inspiration but I continue. I found that many people have never learned how to live and slow their pace down. It is the quietness of life that will reveal the mysteries of the simplicity of life. I always make time for prayer and some quiet meditation. This keeps the rivers of creativity flowing.
