The Substance Of My Music

I was asked just recently where do I get my titles from and why are they sometimes so serious and stoic. I responded by saying, "I didn't know that they were stoic, serious yes in that they are a reflection of my moods and feelings. I have chosen to use my experiences and emotions to fuel my writing and music.

I have found that an individual can sit and concentrate on their problems and their various troubles or they can take their feelings and fuel their endavors to achieve a specific task or goal. I have chosen to do the later. Every song is forged in the fires of my heartbreak, lonliness and my episodes of melancholy.

I have one song called, "Song of My Sons" that reflects my many battles with mentoring many young men and some women and the trials that come with mentoring. There are many times that the mentoring business is not all that it seems to be. This is one of my favorite songs because it expresses a time in my life when I was seeking new methods of training specific students that I had taken under my wing to train as professors for a certain college that I had started and had agreed to build.

This song like many others come from the feelings of my heart and those experiences whether good or bad. Emotions are the stuff of creativity. I try not to waste any emotional energy. If my heart is broken or I know someone whose heart is broken I write about the emotions that come along with the experience. Again I refuse to be broken by my sorrows but rather I choose to use my sorrows to fuel my goals and passions.
