Sarkikos vs. Pneumatikos

In the soul of man resides quite a bit of turmoil and conflict. This conflict and imbalance is the result of the Phusiological Imbalance of the human nature. This imbalance is literally seen and experienced more in the believer than the unbeliever. In the unregenerate man there exists a manner of conscience and a modality and capacity for ethical behavior. In many cases there are underlying motives for ethical behaviors that are manifested. Even when these codes of ethics are utilized they soon shift especially when the unfavorable circumstances compromise the well-being of the individual who has the ethical or moral stance. Within the human nature there is a strong urge to protect and to defend "self" and all that belongs to self. When something violates this fundamental instinct it is easy to drop all standards of morality and ethical rule. It can easily be justified in the heart of one that is not spirit filled because the fundamental programming is centered around survival, self preservation and living. It is not a natural occurrence to not want to live. When one seeks death it is generally because there is a state of hopelessness that has developed deeply within the heart or the soul that makes it easier to die than to live. This is one of the reasons a society that is peaceful can become a mob when their well-being is at stake. How often have we experience looting when there are natural disasters as well as wanton acts of violence?

There are some fundamentally good people who are as good as they can be and yet scripture reveals that the righteousness of the unregenerate man is as a filthy rag in comparison to what God sees as being righteous ( Isa. 64:6). When man is in the unregenerate state his righteousness is not enough to yield salvation to the individual. Although there are some who live a very fundamentally good life there is still a need to be saved and yield the life to Christ.

The human nature in the fallen state was the reason Jesus came to seek and to save mankind. Therefore even in the unregenerate man there is conflict and imbalance; however the greatest imbalance can be seen in the believer as the struggle to continue in the path of spirituality. We told by scripture that the carnal mind (Sarx Phronema) is hostile and opposes God (Romans 8:7). Carnality is the state of the human nature that continues in the unregenerate fallen nature of Adam. The Sarx (Sarkikos) is not in subjection to God nor His Word and the scripture say that it is not capable of being in subjection to the will of God. The sarx and sarkikos war against the spiritual (pneumatikos) and resist and defy the very laws of God while the spiritual leads and compels man to abide by the laws that the natural mind seeks to resist and to break.

This fundamental imbalance will continue to rage until the believer commits to being filled with the Word of God to the point of being abundantly saturated with the Word and the Spirit of God. This is the struggle, bringing the human heart to the point of desiring to be filled with the Word of God and maintaining the desire to please and obey God. The power of righteousness is in every believer by way of the Holy Ghost. It is the heart of the man that must open the door to receive and accept the righteousness that God has imparted within the spiritual aspect of man. Then and only then as he opens the gate of thought that is conformed or in conformity with God will righteousness flow through him and dominate his life (Proverbs 23:7). The act of thinking is likened to a gate keeper opening the gate to allow something to come forth. It is this dilemma that keeps many Christians in a cycle of failure. Many do not understand that they were born again in righteousness and that this righteousness has been imputed to them by the finished works of Jesus and the new birth. There must be a renewal of the mind by adapting to the spiritual essence that comes with receiving the Holy Ghost and the receiving of the Word of God as truth while allowing this same word to wash and cleanse us in the caverns of our heart.
