RMEG Standard of Reflectional Writings

RMEG Insttutes, because of our specific curriculum is driven by writing assignments. We stress on writing "reflections" because they help our students to organize their thought both mentally and on paper. Part of our goal is to produce writers who can leave a legacy of academic scholaly works preserved for the this and future generations.

many of our assignments given are writing assignments called reflections. There are several types of reflections that may be asked for on any given assignment. In times past some of our students have had serious problems with their assignments because many colleges no longer stress writing, grammar etc. We thought it would be helpful for our students who are required to do mini disertations and other writing assignment when they reach certain levels of certification in their programs.

The Nature of Reflectional Writing

The nature of reflective writing is that it forces the student tothe student to recall the information that was digested as well as arrange it into an appropriate written discourse. As the student begins to understand the thesis of the discourse as well as the perspective that the professor is guiding the individual to the reflection is a method of developing a quick response to a complicated topic or concept and to with critical thinking expound upon it.

Theological concepts are highly thought provocative and in many cases will call for much de- liberation and examination to arrive at an appropriate summation of the topic at hand. Reflective writing prepares the student to:

1. organize their thoughts

2. systematically convey their thoughts

3. quickly analyze academic materials

4. communicate important conceptualized elements within their core curriculum and discipline

5. learn to develop a viable thesis paragraph and thus understand how to develop into research publications such as research papers, books, journals etc.

Reflections will reveal several things concerning the individual student's understanding of the material such as how clear of an understanding the student truly has, whether the student needs more training in their conceptualization skills, how to utilize logic in their writing communica- tion and research. This is very important because most biblical curriculum involving theology, biblical studies etc one must do a tremendous amount of reading and writing. If these skills are minimal the student will have very little success in the theological fields.

Writing Protocol

You may not be familiar with our writing protocol so we thought we would help you out. R.M.E.G. is driven by 3 major methods of instruction: “Reflections * Lecture * Discourse” Although there are other methods of instruction we use most of your as- signments will be reflections. You will find it necessary to discourse and also read, study and examine carefully every lecture when given and to read every reading assignment:

  • THE BASIC REFLECTION - The basic reflection will consist of an informal writing that may consist of 1-3 paragraphs.

  •  THE DETAILED REFLECTION - The detailed reflection will consist of several paragraphs and should give comprehensive detail that is organized chronologically and both sites the reference materials as well as define new and technical terms.

  •  THE DEFINITIVE REFLECTION - The definitive reflection will focus on the process of defining a term within the con- text of an essay and explanative method. The definitive reflection is not using numerical or bullet point answers.

  •  THE DISCURSIVE REFLECTION - The discursive reflection is one that is very comprehensive and will contain definitions, detail, expositional techniques etc. It is the most comprehensive of all the reflective writings.
