Theoretic Theology

The Reeverian Ministerial Educational Group (R.M.E.G.) recognizes that there are many types of theological systems that exist. There is also a need to explore other branches of theology that can aid in the expanding of theological thought. In many cases the theology of many institutions is outdated in the sense that the dogma of that system is considered to be a completed system with no room to advance or extend the system through a complex investigation of that system. It is important to understand that theology cannot and does not merely give those who study theology the perimeters to add just anything as legitimate theological content.

All Christian Theology is based upon scripture and can only be valid if the concepts or ideologies are taken from the scripture. In R.M.E.G. we have engaged in a form of exegesis that combines eisogesis based upon the complexities of scriptural text. Many individuals consider all eisogesis to be contrary to any biblical research or studies.

When the term eisogesis is defined, much more clarity can be ascertained as to what its purpose truly is and that it can be a legitimate practice in studying the text of scripture. The term eisogesis(eisegesis) is literally defined as:

1. Critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially the scriptures

2. Explanation or exposition of a scriptural text.

Although many individuals define eisegesis as being the use of opinion rather than the textual interpretation I believe that there is more to eisegesis than a mere opinion that forsakes the biblical interpretation. I also believe that there are several types of eisegesis, which are:

1. Assumptive interpretation (making an assumption of a meaning of text without exegesis or a proper hermeneutic breakdown of the text.

2. Theoretic Eisegesis that is the theorizing of the meaning of the text that occurs because of the course in which a scripture is flowing within the exegeted text that has been rendered.

Assumptive Eisegesis literally gives an opinion without the use of background without the use of exegesis or any hermeneutic processes while Theoretic Eisegesis uses scriptural references and the common course of the scripture to ascertain a probable meaning based upon scripture. Theoretic Eisegesis is the use of forecasting and exegesis to ascertain a probable meaning of a doctrine or of specific actions or practices. Theoretic Theology is not creating a doctrinal or even a scriptural stance but rather using the scriptures to consider a probable custom or process that can be used to consider doctrine when deciphering the scriptures. for instance, scripture does not say every place where someone was baptized in scripture that they were baptized in Jesus name and yet based upon Luke 24:46-48, Acts 2:38 and other texts we can literally assume that this was the custom that was followed as relates to baptism. Even though history backs up this premise many still do not accept the idea of baptism in Jesus name being a valid doctrine of the New Testament Church.

Theoretic Theology can help to resolve many instance in which there are opposing theories concerning scripture and doctrinal issues. This type of theology is used all of the time under the guise of exegesis and exposition but in most cases is not based upon pure hermeneutic or exegetic principles.

The End.
